Attended Fantastic CRAVE Event

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

I had the opportunity to attend a fantastivancouverheader_cravec CRAVE event yesterday and learned so much valuable information.  Thanks to the fantastic speakers and experts who contributed.  We would be thrilled to have you as A Red Bench guests anytime.

We are constantly asked the question of how to know where to spend your  marketing dolllars.  Here was a quick take away I learned to answer the question.

  1. Know who is putting money in your pocket.
  2. Know why they put money in your pocket.
  3. Do more of that.

I love attending conferences and seminars.  I love to learn.  Yeah, it was a tiring day, but I woke up this morning with 100 new ways to grow A Red Bench.

Don’t Forget Your Marketing Plan

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Typically, most business owners market their business when the phone stops ringing and that’s not a plan.  Back in December, we had a teleclass called Create A World Class Marketing Plan and if you haven’t already listened to that call, we encourage you to do so.  What we discussed on that call is the importance of having a strategic marketing plan in place to achieve your goals every month.  We shared the key components of a profitable marketing plan and how to execute like a  pro.  When you have a strategic plan in place, you leverage what you already have and what is already working for you, in a consistent way that allows you to work smarter, not harder.  By having a marketing plan, you should not have to re-create the wheel monthly, but rather have a system that works for you.

On a recent teleclass, 7 No Cost Marketing Tactics we shared tactics you can use to grow your business  that cost little or no money.  When I worked at the advertising agency we looked at marketing as a 3-legged stool and that means one could not work without the other.  Marketing consists of advertising, promotions and public relations; you want all three to be present in your marketing plan.  Often times, when we associate advertising with offering a discount, which has become even more a challenge right now as everything is 75% off, but discounting is not your only option.

On our recent call we shared 7 marketing tactics that will increase your visibility and credibility and none of which involved offering a discount.  Take some time to think about your marketing and how you can grow your business without affecting the bottom line.

How To Choose The Right Keywords

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

computerIn April, we have an expert speaker who has so much information on search engine optimization (SEO).  His name is Zeke Camusio and I have learned a great deal from his online articles.  I am really looking forward to this teleclass as this is a very important subject to our business.  A question that keeps comes up is how to select the right keywords for to maximize your search engine optimization.   Here are some tips from Zeke.

Step 1: Coming up with a list of possible keywords and the important thing here is to create a keyword list as large as possible.

Step 2: Use a keyword research tool to get even more keywords
Zeke recommends WordTracker which gives you a lot of keywords you didn’t think of before.

Step 3:  Check search volume.  You can use WordTracker (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/) or/and Google Keyword Tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) to find out how many searches your keywords have. You don’t want to waste your time optimizing your website for keywords that are searched for once a month.

Step 4: Check competition
After you’ve found relevant keywords with a good search volume you have to make sure that they are relatively easy to rank for. The less competition, the better.

In Zeke’s opinion,  ”SEO is by far the best way to promote a business online.”  Make sure you’re getting the most from your keywords.  Zeke will discuss keywords and much more on our April 15th teleclass called Knock Your Socks Off Online Campaigns.

E-Mail Options

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Do you sometimes feel like you need two e-mail inboxes?  One for the good stuff and one for the junk?  Well you are not alone!  Last week I attended the Texas Social Media Awards and had the chance to meet the developers and owners of a new business called Other Inbox.  The motto of Other Inbox is “the cure for email overload”.  Other Inbox helps to organize your e-mail by automatically removing the e-mail from non-people (AKA: businesses, ads, etc.) so that you are not overwhelmed by finding 100 new e-mails in your inbox each day.  Don’t worry, Other Inbox stores the e-mails that it removes so you can find them if you need them.

Check out Other Inbox and let us know what  you think.  Is this something you would recommend to your organizing clients?

Increase Your Newsletter Deliverability

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Among the biggest concerns for email marketers today are email bounces, spam filters and blacklists – all of which affect email deliverability.

There is a lot you can do to make sure your permission-based email gets delivered:

  1. Become a Trusted Sender:  Encourage the recipient to put your “From Address” in their address book.
  2. Understand Email Filters:  Avoid spam like words:  Free, guarantee, credit card, sex etc., resist the temptation to use capital letters and over-punctuate, always include your reply email address and your Web site URL, avoid excessive use of symbols, do not leave the “From” address blank, and always match your subject line to your email content.
  3. Analyze your bounce backs and remove bounces from the list.
  4. Use a reputable email marketing service like Constant Contacts (email us to receive $30 off).
  5. Hire a designer to help you if you don’t have the skills, time or desire to do your own newsletter – We recommend Susabella Designs at www.susabella.com or Leanne Gillespie of Shift Designs

TODAY’S ACTION:
Ensure your e-newsletter follows the spam guidelines and send out a newsletter your clients look forward to reading.  For additional information on newsletter purchase our teleclass recordings called Launch and Sustain Your Newsletter and Marketing Yourself as an Entrepreneur

Use Referrals To Grow Your Business

Let Your Network Speak For You

Did you know it costs less to sell to an existing customer than it does to acquire a new customer?  Networking is the easiest and most effective way to market your business – yet many business owners feel it’s not important, they are afraid or don’t see the value in it.  Don’t be that business.  Know the value of networking.

Here are three tips to remember as you begin getting referrals from clients and networking groups.

  1. Referrals from Clients:  When your client is celebrating an organizing success, that you helped them achieve, use this opportunity to ask for referrals.  You can say, “If you know of anyone else who could benefit from my services, please give them my card.”
  2. Network Organizations:  Follow up immediately with a new contact or referral shows him or her that you value their contribution to your success.
  3. Gratitude:  Anytime you receive a referral say thanks via note card or email.  You can send a little something for a closed piece of business.  Be sure to let people know about your referral program.

Your clients and network of friends and colleagues are some of you best cheerleaders.  They will often speak about you with more enthusiasm than you would speak about yourself.   Let them help you and remember to ask for the business as you typically get what you ask for!

TODAY’S ACTION:
Take the time today to develop your language to ask for referrals.  Ask one client this week!
