How To Dress For The Clients You Want

darceyIf you were to go to an interview right now what would you wear?  Probably your best clothes or your nicest suit.  As a business owner, this is a reality for us everyday.  You never know when you will run into a prospective client and if you look professional, put together, and organized you are more likely to be taken seriously and make an impression.  You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Business Dress Code:
Meeting Attire:  As organizers our wardrobes need to be a wide variety of business attire and office casual.  When attending networking meetings and client consultations this is your best chance to dress to impress and dress for the business you want.  Start your consultation off on the right foot by dressing professional and buttoned up.  You are setting the tone that you are a professional and you are delivering a valuable service.

Organizing Attire:
As the hands-on organizing consultant, clients see us as the leader and your attire should still hold a professional edge.  Don’t wear shorts, jeans, or cut off, logo t-shirts (unless it has your company logo on it), or anything with a religious or political affiliation (unless that is part of your branding) to an appointment.  Invest in stylish, yet comfortable shoes.

Remember you are a living reflection of your brand, so your attire, handbag, briefcase, and your notebook should be pieces that make you feel great and represent who you are.

TODAY’S ACTION:
Create your “Meeting and Organizing Attire Policy” based on the clients you want to work with.  If you are struggling with this consider getting help from an expert.  We recommend Darcey Howard’s DVD called Personal Branding Through Appearance.
